OCTOBER CALENDARS ARE OUT

Yes, the October Calendars are out!  We'll be selling tickets for the bus trips starting tomorrow, Friday, Sept 24th.  We've got a lot planned for the upcoming month, so I hope you'll all take the time to check over the calendar!

Wild West Show!

WOW! The Wild West Show at the State Fair was great.  Cowboys and cowgirls did some great stunts.  How come the cowgirls are the only ones I ever see doing the "trick riding"?  Are the boys not brave enough?  Just kidding.

It was very cool to see how these pros worked with some of the animals.  They were able to get 2 huge oxen to play dead and three stuborn mules to climb ON TOP of a horse trailer.  The most stuborn of the lot took a lot of persuading.  I think he finally realized that the cowboys weren't gonna let him take a nap until he climbed up.

Trick roping was pretty cool too!  That guy was talented, let me tell you.  I don't remember the names of all the tricks he did, but he did them with style.

That show was only a tiny portion of the State Fair.  Nitro Ice Cream, The Last Glue you'll ever Need, wallets & purses, fried food, bedding, rides and shows.  It's just plain cool!

Going to the Fair

It's State Fair time again in OK!  Tomorrow (Wed) is Senior Day at the Fair and we're taking a bus full of RAC patrons down there to enjoy the festivities.  The special building for senior info and events is always a big draw, but we're sure to hit the midway for indian tacos or pizza on a stick.  I'm not going to risk the chocolate covered bacon...nope, I'm just not gonna do it.

I love that we get to see so many more people than just those who come on our bus.  Many of our regular patrons make their way out to the Fair and stay late into the afternoon to get a better chance on the door prizes offered to seniors.  I love seeing people I know wandering throughout the grounds.  It makes me feel like I live in a small town.

Enjoy the Fair and I'll see you all for Thursday's September Birthday Dinner!!

Volunteer Opportunities

Mobile Meals now has an opening for a volunteer on Tuesday mornings.  You'd have the opportunity to help in the kitchen preparing meals to be delivered to homebound seniors in Yukon.

If working in a kitchen is not your cup of tea, don't discount the program.  New drivers who are willing to deliver a noon meal during the week, or check writers who are willing to make donations are all welcome into the mobile meals family!

Scavenger Hunt

For the August Birthday Dinner we had a scavenger hunt!  RAC patrons were given a list of about 40 items that included football schedules, t-shirts, tools, and more.  The first place winners were a group of women who meet daily to work on quilts.  By combining forces, these women were able to find almost everything on the list and, by doing so, won themselves a Chili's gift certificate and a bottle of Spakling Grape Juice.  Everyone who participated enjoyed the adventure!

Representing the winning team: (L-R) Louise Poling, Mary Harp & Myrtle Santin

Braum's Family Farm & Dairy

Bus Driver, Darrell J, took a group down to Braum's in August.  Patrons enjoyed a free ice cream bar before touring the dairy.  Through large glass windows, we got to see the milk bottles being formed by complex machines and transported directly to the room where they are filled and sealed.  There's no time for those bottle to collect dust (at least until they make it to our personal recycling bins).

Patrons were mesmerized by the fudgecicle making.  Hot wires easily cut through large fudgecicle blocks the wooden sticks are shot into the pops with accuracy that would be the envy of Robin Hood himself.  Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy stores will forever be a favorite of us Okies!
