Give Back with Mobile Meals

For 35 years, individuals have been volunteering with the Mobile Meals organization. Drivers can volunteer their services once a month, twice a month, or even weekly, and the benefits are felt everyday.

Park Board Member Lois Cain, got to experience the joy of helping out fellow Yukon residents by driving a route to deliver meals to homebound individuals. Cain loaded up her minivan around 10:30 am and hit the streets. After ringing a dozen doorbells throughout Yukon, Cain said, “I enjoy meeting new people and it was a great way to make someone’s day a little brighter.”

Each route has between ten and fifteen recipients that gratefully accept meals Monday through Friday. For the small cost of $1.50 per day, the senior and disabled population in Yukon can have healthy, hot meals come to their front door.

Many of the recipients are actually sponsored through the kindness of community members or organizations. Churches often donate money or food to keep the program going strong. Individuals sponsor the program through the “$1 a Day Feeds the Way” program. Everyone has the opportunity to make the world a little better through giving to others. Find your opportunity by calling Mobile Meals at 350-5900.
