Got an appointment with the doctor or the hairdresser? “Big Rob” is gassed up and at your service, just as long as your appointments are in Yukon between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 Noon on weekdays. It’s a new service of the Robertson Activity Center. If you have errands to take care of, or have a group of three or four who would like a trip to Kohl’s or Braum’s, for example, call the Center and work out the time and the fare.
On a regular basis, “Big Rob,” our Ford Starcraft bus, can be seen around town Mondays through Fridays. Big Rob gives seniors door-to-door service to the Center, plus Friday trips to Wal-Mart, Target, Homeland -- your choice as long as it’s in Yukon. The fare is only $2. Add an extra dollar if you’re going on to Wal-Mart or other shopping spot.
Big Rob is a 14-passenger Ford Starcraft bus with retractable seat belts and a wheelchair lift. Every day after lunch Big Rob delivers seniors to their homes, wherever they may be. His theme song could be the John Denver classic, “Country Roads, Take Me Home.” Darrell Janko is our ever-helpful bus driver.
There’s still time to get your taxes done. AARP representatives are on hand from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays to help with preparing tax returns. This is for personal returns only, not business returns. Even if you just want to apply for the Oklahoma Sales Tax Refund, bring your papers in. First come, first served. It’s service with a smile and it’s free.
Hurry in for your tickets to “A Taste of Yukon.” It’s set for Thursday, March 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Robertson Activity Center Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. More than 20 local restaurants will tempt you with a “taste” of their specialties. Expect a crowd, and all those “tastes” add up to a full meal so come hungry.
You can pick up the monthly calendar and menu at the reception desk. You can also look it up on the Internet at: www.robertsonactivitycenter.blogspot.com. Check out the colorful snapshots of members and activities in the blog.
The Robertson Activity Center is at 1200 Lakeshore Drive, phone number 350-7680, open Monday through Friday except for holidays. Two for the price of one note: Yukon’s library – the Mabel C. Fry Library – is in the same building with the Robertson Activity Center.
