December at the RAC

Make sure you come out to the Robertson Activity Center and join in on our Christmas festivities.

 We have the caroling choir that meets on monday mornings. This is open to  anyone who likes to sing. it doesn't matter if you have a great voice or not just come out and sing some great christmas songs with us. We will be singing at Victorian Estates on Thursday Dec. 8th at 9am, Windsor Hills on Tuesday Dec. 13th at 10:30am and Nina Willingham on Wednesday Dec. 14th at 9:30am.

We will be holding our first Community Christmas Movie on Dec. 20th at 7:00pm. The feature presentation will be the holiday classic "White Christmas". Popcorn and snacks with be provided along with some chrismas goodies. You can also have your picture taken with Santa Claus starting at 6:15pm.

We also will  have are annual Dirty Santa gift exchange. This will be held on Tuesday Dec. 20th during the usual morning activities around 10am. Please bring a gift to participate! Gifts must be new or homemade  and in the $5:oo range. Do to time constraints gifts can only be stolen twice!

Trips scheduled this month are the mystery lunch on Dec. 8th at 11am cost is $2.oo, the Govenor's Mansion on Dec. 21st at 1pm cost is $3:00, and the Gold River Casino on Dec. 27th at 9:30am cost is $6:oo. These trips fill up fast so     make sure you sign up as soon as possible.

Remember the RAC has daily activities from 8am to 4pm. Check the calender for times. We will be closed on Dec. 23rd and Dec. 24th for the Christmas Holiday.

October Senior Scoop

There’s always something new at the Yukon Senior Center. “Moon” dominoes has been added to Thursday’s schedule. “Moon” is a variation of “Texas 42,” a domino game played like a card game. Come on down Thursdays for armchair exercises at 8 a.m. and stay for “Moon” at 9 a.m.

Our Tuesday devotionals led by local pastoral staff members continue at 10 a.m. in Meeting Room A of the library. Churches included in this month’s schedule: Oct. 11, First United Methodist; Oct. 18, Yukon Church; Oct. 25, First Christian Church.

“Come for the fright of your life” reads the Oct. 21st invitation from Guthrie Haunts’ Halloween Haunted House. For an evening with spooks and goblins and things that go bump in the night, we’ll leave the Senior Center at 6 p.m. The bus fare and entrance fee is $8. Dinner in Guthrie is extra, so bring dinner money.

Then it’s on to Hinton Monday, Oct. 24, for an afternoon at Sugar Creek Casino. You’ll find all kinds of slots and other games. Big Rob will roll out of the Senior Center parking lot at 1:30 p.m. Bus fare is $4.

This busy month includes a Blood Pressure Clinic by Elite Homecare at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, and a Wellness Clinic by Loving Care Nurses at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fun activities include a trip to the zoo to see the new Elephant Habitat on Wednesday, Oct. 12, leaving the Senior Center at 9 a.m., and a Halloween Party on Monday, Oct. 31. Costumes welcome!

A Special Note: Working through CETUSA, Casey Barnett and Althea Brown are welcoming exchange students for this school year. Casey says:

"My student is a 16-year-old girl from China.  Her American nickname is Angelina and she and her family like to go skiing and horseback riding in the mountains.  She’ll be a junior at Yukon High School and will be attending for the whole year.  Angelina wants to write a book about her experience as a foreign exchange student.

"Althea’s student is a 16-year-old male, Victor, from Spain.  He’ll also be a junior and attending HS for the whole year.  He likes video games, soccer and football.  He wants to be in the Spanish Navy like his father."

Senior Scoop for September

In a special spotlight for September 29 is historic Fort Reno, where seniors have a chance to see displays of great horsemanship. It’s opening day of a three-day National Cavalry Competition. The bus leaves the Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. in order to be on hand for the Military Field Jumping event at 9 a.m.

Vendors will be on site for snacks or lunch, and a Mounted Saber drill is scheduled for 1 p.m. The bus will return to the Senior Center at 2 or 3 p.m. depending on when seniors are ready to leave. The bus fare is $5, and admission is $8.

According to the Cavalry Association, “Every U.S. Olympic and National Team horse and rider up through 1948 came from the U.S. Army’s mounted services. Today the U.S. Cavalry Association preserves this fine tradition through sponsorship of the annual National Cavalry Competition and regional competitions around the country.”

Friday, September 23, heralds the Fall Equinox, when there is exactly the same number of hours in day and night. Of course, Mother Natures sometimes fudges a little, but you can count on Big Rob, the trusty Senior Center bus, making the weekly trip to WalMart that day.

The Senior Center has a full schedule of ongoing programs such as line dancing, aerobics, arm chair exercise, canasta, bridge club and mah-jong, but the calendar is also dotted with special events.

Eater Outers will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 13, for dinner at the Cimarron Steak House, 201 North Meridian, Oklahoma City, which has an interesting history of it own. Did you know it was once a supper club owned by Doc Severinsen, the long-time band director for TV’s Johnny Carson show? That was in the 1980s, and Doc brought in some big-time musicians to perform.

Other special events include a Mystery Lunch Sept. 15, leaving the Senior Center at 11 a.m. Only Darrell Janko knows where the bus will take you for lunch, but you can trust him, right? Bus fare is $2, plus lunch money.

Next up is Senior Day at the Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21. Bus fare is $4, free admission for seniors with ID. Take spending money and wear a pair of good walking shoes.

Then it’s back to the Sixties at a Honky Tonk Birthday Dinner Sept. 22 at 11:45. Wear a costume. Free lunch to seniors who celebrate birthdays in September; everyone else $3. The scheduled meal is BBQ, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob and deviled eggs.

All that plus some excellent Tuesday movies: “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull,” Sept. 13; “Good Will Hunting,” Sept. 20; and “Into the Wild,” Sept. 27.

September at the RAC

Make sure you come out to the RAC for our daily activities. Playing cards, dancing, and exercising are always available, check calender for exact times. Of course lunch is served every week day at 11:45, a delicious meal for only a $2 donation. What a deal!  Don't forget about Tai Chi, Painting and Chicks with sticks which meet on select days.
The special events for September are trips to Remington Park (Sept. 6th at 1pm, $4), a Mystery Lunch trip (Sept. 15th at 11am, $2 +$ for lunch), Senior Day at the Fair (Sept. 21st at 9am, $4 +$ to spend) and trip to the Ft. Reno Cavalry Competition (Sept 29th time TBA, $5).
We also have are Birthday lunch on Sept 22nd. The theme for the lunch is Honky Tonk, so there will be some great country music and dancing. We will also be having a Wellness Clinic during the birthday lunch. A Certified Nurse will be here from 10am - 11am to check blood pressure and sugar levels.
Also wanted to let everyone know that the game room in the back has been cleaned up. We have hung photos on the walls and you can play pool or ping pong. We would like to add a shuffleboard table and are currently excepting donation that will go to the purchase of one. We are continuing to work at improving the RAC and hoping that you make it your home away from home!

Hoppin at the RAC

The August Birthday Dinner was today and oh, what a happenin time.
The theme for the event was a Sock Hop. Emphasis on the Hop because the place sure was a hoppin. Who knew the RAC had so many patrons that liked to dance. Maybe it was because the music was from the 50's and 60's, that era of music is so compelling. We held a dance off and the winner recieved a gigantic container of Cheese Puffs. We also challenged the men to wear poodle skirts to the event. Several of the men were up to the challenge and they recieved free meals from the RAC. Eventually the dancin came to an end an we celebrated the birthday with a delicious lunch. The main entree was salisbury steak. The side items were mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, pears, and deviled eggs. Desserts were provided by the Bethal Baptist Church. Em, em, sweet and yummy!

Ice Cream Social

Hope you were there at the Ice Cream Social last night. If not, you missed out on a fabulous affair.
Who Doesn't like ice cream with all the fixins!  The entertainment was the highlight of the evening though.  G3 the gospel guitar guys started it off with some great live music. People couldn't help but dance to it. The Dance floor was packed. While G3 took a break there was a demonstration of several of the activities the RAC has to offer. This was Hosted by Terri O'Neal, who did a wonderful job at keeping the audience in stiches, between performances by the Silver Chords Choir, Line Dancing, Hott Heels Tap Troop, and Tai Chi.There was something for everyone to enjoy. Trip to the Myriad Botanical Gardens

One of the most beautiful Peaceful places in Oklahoma. It is wonderful to sit along the sunken lake and be mesmerized by the movement of the bright colored Koi as they move around beneath the surface of the water. In the center of the Gardens is the recently renovated 7 story Crystal Bridge. Inside is a tropical Paridise, with hundreds of blooming tropical flowers and large palm trees.What truly makes this place an oasis is the sound of cascading water as it falls from a 35ft vine covered

 waterfall. This is a great place to get lost in you thoughts and become one with nature.
